Sigurd Mareels is one of the world’s foremost mining experts, with a global perspective and deep expertise across all major minerals and metals, as well as mining business strategies and funding models.
He joined McKinsey & Company in 1988, where he served as the global leader of the firm’s mining practice. He now holds the title of Senior Partner Emeritus and acts as a Special Advisor.
Sigurd has lived on three continents and worked in over 65 countries, bringing international insight to the sector.
Since retiring from McKinsey, he has taken on board and advisory roles in mining-related companies and provides consulting services through the Granito Group.
He is also actively developing his own mining projects in Chile.
Academia: PhD in Metallurgy and M.Sc. in Engineering, Ghent University, Belgium.
