Roberto Emrich Soares

Senior Advisor

Roberto has 20+ years of private placement experience both on the buy and sell side. Currently, he works as a Principal Executive at CAF—Development Bank of Latin America focusing on the origination and execution of structured transactions in the Brazilian infrastructure sector.

Previously, he worked for approximately 10 years at both Itaú BBA and XP Investimentos in Brazil as the Head of Development Finance at these institutions, where he raised more than US$ 10 billion in proprietary and large corporates funding via structured and complex transactions (Syndicated/Club-deal facilities, A/B & Parallel Loans, on-lending facilities, bilateral loans, etc.) from various Development Finance Institutions and for different use of proceeds (SME financing, trade, “green loans”, gender, portfolio & single asset finance, etc). 

Between 2007 and 2009 Roberto led IFC’s infrastructure business development effort in Brazil, where he was responsible for originating, evaluating, and executing projects/investments in sectors such as renewable energy, water & sanitation, and transportation. 

Prior to IFC, he worked for Santander Bank in New York for approximately 6 years holding several positions in the Structured Trade Finance Division.

Roberto holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from UNA College of Managerial Sciences and an executive MBA from the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (FGV). He also completed the full course work for a Master's in International Affairs at Ohio University (USA). 

Roberto is passionate about track and field. He ran the NYC Marathon (4x), the Rio Marathon (2016), and the Buenos Aires Marathon (2018). He also finished the 70.3 Ironman in Rio (2017).
